Founder and CEO

Welcome to our organization Abosamso Orphanage and Charity International is a Canadian registered charity that exists primarily to provide parental care, nourishment, education, and nurturing to orphans and abandoned children in and around the town of Abosamso in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. At present, we have some 18 children under care, with a government-verified capacity to take in as many as 200 children, when the resources are in place to do so. Our orphans and abandoned children include children who have been orphaned through death, deliberate abandonment, sheer neglect, or parental care inability caused by poverty. There are many ways to help in our operations. Let's start from here...... Financial Support You can make a financial contribution to help us. You can do this through any of the following ways:  Goods/Materials You can assist us by donating goods/materials we can use in our programs or distribute to the needy in Ghana.  Shipping/Freight Services We also desperately need the donation of shipping/freight services from around the world to Ghana.  Farm Implements For Charity Farm Through family inheritance, the charity's president has acquired a large tract of prime farm land (15 acres) in the Abosamso area,
THANK YOU!

Our orphanage started with the spontaneous commitment on the part of our founder and president, Madam Martha Nyame, to do something real and concrete to address the truly gut-wrenching plight of the many orphaned or abandoned children she encountered on her trip back to her home town of Abosamso in 1994. Using her own personal resources – three-quarters of her own income over the first 4 years, and a sizeable portion still - Madam Nyame acquired a home and hired substitute parents, teachers, an administrator, and support staff to take in and care for these children even before she returned back to Canada in 1994. Following its spontaneous beginnings, the orphanage acquired formal Ghanaian Government recognition in 2006 after a thorough, on-site operational review as an orphanage; and recently, in January 2010, we were also formally recognized and approved in Canada as a lawfully registered charity under the Income Tax Act, after 16 years of operating as such. From the nominators:

Ms. Nyame has contributed immensely to the lives of many children in her community through her orphanage as well as some adults. Ms. Martha Nyame is the president and founder of Abosamso Charity and Orphanage International, a Canadian registered charity that exists primarily to provide parental care, nourishment, education, and nurturing to orphans and abandoned children in and around the town of Abosamso in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. She never had the opportunity to go to school but found it very essential for children, both in and out of her community to be in school and also to be catered for in every aspect. Ms. Nyame who herself, lives in Etobicoke, currently has 19 kids (18) she’s caring for in her orphanage. She has employed trained teachers and qualified people to make sure these children experience a life she never had.

The good aspect of it all is that, she doesn’t run the organization for the monetary aspect but rather to give these children the best in life. Ms. Nyame is a selfless person and finds it enjoyable to be of help to these children and she continues to do this whole-heartedly. It is her only hope that the children will benefit from this help that she extends to them and go on to have better opportunities in life than she did.
